The Universidad de Manila (UDM) continues to align its employment practices with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth—through transparent and equitable recruitment and selection policies that prioritize job security, fairness, and career growth.
As of S.Y. 2024–2025, the University has a total of 321 staff members, composed of 98 full-time faculty, 120 permanent administrative employees, and 103 workers under contract of service (COS). This workforce distribution demonstrates UDM’s balanced approach in ensuring stability while addressing institutional needs through flexible appointments.
Key highlights of the University’s workforce include:
- Full-time Faculty: All 98 faculty members are employed on permanent appointments, representing 30.52% of the total workforce. This guarantees job security and access to benefits consistent with decent work standards.
- Administrative Employees: Out of 193 administrative employees, 120 hold permanent appointments (or 37.38% of the total workforce), ensuring continuity and stable service delivery.
- Contract of Service (Administrative): 47 employees serve on a COS basis, equivalent to 14.64% of the administrative workforce. Their roles remain essential in supporting operational functions.
- Contract of Service (Faculty): 30 faculty members are employed on a COS basis, representing 9.34% of the total workforce. While these positions are typically short-term and project-based, the University continues to explore pathways to enhance their job security and integration.
Through this employment framework, UDM upholds fair recruitment and selection practices, anchored on merit and transparency, while also committing to improve conditions for COS personnel.
By institutionalizing secure employment and promoting inclusive hiring, UDM directly advances and ensuring equal opportunities for decent work and sustained economic growth. This approach reflects the University’s broader mission of uplifting lives through quality education and building a motivated workforce that contributes to institutional excellence and public service.
