In strong alignment with SDG 4 – Quality Education, the Universidad De Manila (UDM) extended its academic mission beyond traditional classrooms through the Continuing Education for Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) program, held at the Manila City Jail – Female Dormitory.
Spearheaded by Physical Education students from the College of Education, the outreach initiative provided literacy activities, health-focused discussions, and motivational learning sessions designed to promote rehabilitation, resilience, and self-worth among the female inmates.
The program emphasized that education is a right, not a privilege, and that learning must remain accessible to all members of society—regardless of circumstance or confinement. Through structured lessons and engaging activities, participants were given the opportunity to rebuild confidence, discover new interests, and envision a better life beyond detention.
By empowering women in custody with knowledge and healthy self-expression, UDM reinforces that true rehabilitation is not just about discipline—it is about giving individuals the tools to transform themselves through education.
This initiative stands as a testament to UDM’s belief that quality education must reach even the most overlooked corners of society, proving that the university’s influence extends not only to scholars but to souls in search of a second chance.
