MEMORANDUM Series of 2025
January 10, 2025
Promoting Conscious Water Usage in the Wider Community
All UDM Academic and Administrative Units
In alignment with the University’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation, and in support of the City Government of Manila’s environmental agenda, the Universidad De Manila (UDM) affirms its institutional responsibility to promote conscious water use within and beyond its campus.
Conscious Water Use in the Wider Community
The University recognizes that water conservation is not limited to infrastructure or internal operations. Rather, it must be practiced as a broader social and educational commitment. Thus, all Colleges, Offices, and Student Organizations are directed to implement or support outreach and advocacy programs that:
- Promote awareness of water conservation issues in households, schools, and barangay-level communities through seminars, IEC campaigns, and educational modules.
- Engage in community-based projects that demonstrate water-saving techniques, such as rainwater harvesting, greywater recycling, and proper sanitation education.
- Collaborate with city and barangay officials, NGOs, and civil society groups in campaigns that reduce wastage and promote sustainable consumption of freshwater resources.
- Integrate water conservation themes into student research, extension activities, and public service initiatives.
Faculty Engagement and Student Participation
The Academic Affairs Office shall encourage faculty members to embed themes of sustainable water use in course syllabi, where appropriate, especially in subjects under environmental sciences, education, governance, and urban planning. Meanwhile, the Office of Student Affairs shall facilitate student involvement in off-campus campaigns, internships, and service-learning projects that promote responsible water use.
Reporting and Recognition
Colleges and Departments are required to submit annual summaries of their water advocacy activities to the UDM Sustainability Office every March. Outstanding initiatives will be acknowledged during the annual University Sustainability and Resilience Forum.
For inquiries or technical assistance in developing community-aligned projects on water consciousness, please coordinate with the University Research, Extension, Linkages and International Affairs at udm_urelia@gmail.com
Let us continue to foster a culture of environmental responsibility and be a proactive agent for sustainable development in the City of Manila.
For your strict compliance and widest dissemination.
