MEMORANDUM Series of 2025

January 10, 2025

Compliance with Off-Campus Water Conservation Support

All Faculty and Staff

In line with the Universidad de Manila’s continuing commitment to environmental sustainability and its alignment with Sustainable Development Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), all members of the university community are hereby encouraged to extend water conservation practices beyond the physical premises of the university and into our respective communities and households.

As part of our participation in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings and our environmental responsibility as a local university under the City of Manila, we recognize that water stewardship is not confined to on-campus behavior alone. Ensuring responsible water consumption off campus is essential to strengthening our contribution to sustainable resource use and climate resilience.

To this end, the university urges all faculty, staff, students, and affiliated personnel to observe and promote the following practices within your homes and neighborhoods:

    1. Advocate for water-saving habits such as turning off taps when not in use, fixing leaks promptly, and using water-efficient appliances.
    2. Support community programs focused on rainwater harvesting, greywater recycling, or water education.
    3. Promote awareness of responsible water usage through barangay-level forums, school partnerships, and social media platforms.
    4. Participate in or initiate local clean-up efforts in water bodies and drainage systems to prevent pollution and flooding.

In collaboration with the Manila City Government, UDM may also provide technical seminars or community extension activities on practical water conservation strategies, upon request. We invite interested departments or student organizations to coordinate with the Office of Extension Services for such engagements.

Let this memorandum serve as a reminder that our advocacy for sustainability transcends the university walls. True impact begins when we integrate environmentally conscious behaviors into our daily lives and empower others to do the same.

For guidance or partnership requests on water conservation projects, please contact the Office of the Vice President for Administration or the Research and Extension Office.

Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to environmental responsibility.
